ZIMRA Launches COVID-19 Vaccination Awareness Campaign — OyOsCloud Supports Safer Workspaces and Public Service

In a decisive step toward protecting its workforce during the pandemic, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) launched its Vaccination Awareness Campaign on 14 April 2021 at Rainbow Towers Hotel in Harare. The event was held under strict COVID-19 protocols, in anticipation of a potential third wave of the pandemic.

ZIMRA Vice Board Chairperson Mrs. Josephine Matambo, who officiated the launch, praised ZIMRA employees for their resilience and sacrifice during the crisis:

“There has been a lot of fear surrounding vaccination, and this launch will help in demystifying the lies being spread around... It’s time to adjust to the new normal and move on,” she said.

She also reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to employee welfare and fair remuneration, especially for staff at border posts, who remain on the frontline in high-risk environments.

ZIMRA Acting Commissioner General also commended staff efforts but noted the low vaccination uptake, with only 248 employees vaccinated at the time. He encouraged wider participation and emphasized the importance of trusting medical experts:

“Medical experts... have been called to demystify vaccines and vaccination, help enhance our understanding of the science and merits of vaccination.”

One such expert, Dr. Soman Mudariki from City of Harare Emergency Services, highlighted the heightened exposure ZIMRA staff face:

“It is very important for ZIMRA officers to seriously consider vaccination since they face the virus in an environment that is not controlled... We cannot close our borders—otherwise, where will we get the money to fund our hospitals or our own researches?”

The event ended with several participants being transported to Wilkins Hospital for their first vaccine doses. The awareness campaign will roll out across all ZIMRA regions to ensure staff are fully informed and supported in making vaccination decisions.
