ZIMRA's Tax Education empowers Southern Region Journalists

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), recently held a transformative three-day tax education training in Masvingo aimed at equipping journalists with the knowledge to report on tax and customs-related issues and their broader economic and social impact.

“I’m now better equipped to report on tax-related issues and connect the dots between taxation and sustainable development,” said Portia Muzorava, a journalist from MSU Campus Radio.

The training, which gathered journalists from Masvingo, Chiredzi, Zvishavane, and Beitbridge, included a tour of the Beitbridge Border Post, where journalists witnessed modern surveillance tools in action—including drone systems and cargo scanners—used to combat smuggling and ensure efficient revenue collection.

“We need to emulate the first world where taxes are religiously paid to their governments,” said Melusi Tshuma, UNDP’s national coordinator for Tax for SDGs.

OyOsCloud Supports the Tax Literacy Movement
As ZIMRA and UNDP work to build public understanding and trust in tax systems, OyOsCloud is playing a critical role in bridging the gap between policy and access through digital platforms like:

ZIMRA WhatsApp Bot — available 24/7 to answer questions about tax registration, TaRMS usage, and compliance
Fiscalization via OyOsCloud — starting from just USD 12.50/month, helping businesses meet their legal tax obligations
Digital onboarding and education tools — empowering small business owners and informal traders to transition into the formal economy
Affordable websites and .co.zw domains — giving SMEs a digital footprint to boost credibility and engage with tax systems

This aligns perfectly with ZIMRA’s aim to demystify taxation and encourage greater voluntary compliance, particularly among underrepresented voices like youth, women, and the informal sector.
